ICYMI: Bradenton City Council Meeting Jan. 13, 2021

Hello and welcome to your first of many ICYMI (In Case You Missed It): Meeting Recaps. January 13 was my first meeting as Ward 5 Councilwoman for the City of Bradenton. As I sat on the dais, I felt absolutely honored to serve the citizens of our city.

If you didn’t know, council meetings are usually every other Wednesday at 8:30 AM. This meeting was relatively short.

Highlights

  • Reading of Ordinance 3069, which was for a request for a small scale Future Land Use Map amendment from Conservation to Suburban Commercial Corridor for an approximately 1.62-acre portion of property located off Saint Lucia Drive in Ward 1. The 2nd reading for this ordinance and the public hearing date for this item is scheduled for February 10, 2021.

  • Discussion about a development agreement between the city of Bradenton and 920 Manatee Associates, LLC. This agreement is an attempt to bring attainable housing to the downtown area. There is a great need for workforce housing, also referred to as attainable housing, which is different from affordable housing, though some people use it interchangeably. Attainable housing, however, adds a cost slightly above what’s typically considered affordable housing. It is set for the professionals such as teachers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, entry-level public/private sector occupations, etc. The agreement discussed at the meeting focused on parking and impact fee relief for the project.

You are welcome to view the recording video of council meetings on the City of Bradenton website at this link within a few days after the meeting, along with the minutes/summary. The next regular meeting is January 27 @ 8:30 AM. Sign up for my newsletter that recaps the meetings and provides additional resources to city residents.
